The Perfect Beginnings program provided by a Registered Nurse offers education and peace of mind to parents after returning home.

When you chose to deliver at the MHP Birthing Center, a Registered Nurse (RN) will meet with you during your stay in the hospital. If you are choosing to breastfeed, you will also receive a consultation with our Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. Following your discharge from the hospital, the RN will call you or make a follow-up visit to your home within 72 hours of discharge.

The program is optional and its purpose is to provide helpful information and assessments during the crucial first weeks of an infant’s life. During the first home visit by an RN, the nurse will provide a brief assessment of the mother and baby, including a weight check for the infant.

The nurse will also cover numerous educational topics such as nutritional/feeding issues, infant/child safety, SIDS education on proper sleep positioning and environmental factors, newborn care and any questions parents may have. In addition, if you choose to breastfeed, you can receive a visit from our Board-Certified Lactation Consultant as well as over-the-phone support.

To contact the Lactation Consultant, call the MHP Birthing Center at 641-672-3170.
